Taiwan-based Uni Air operated its last McDonnell Douglas MD-90 flight on Wednesday, marking the official retirement of the aircraft type from its fleet.
The MD-90, Registration B-17920, performing flight B78890, took off from Kinmen Airport at 12:20 p.m. and arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport at 1:15 a.m., ending its nearly 18 years' service in Uni Air.
Executives, pilots and cabin crew of local airline Uni Air welcomed the MD-90 twin-engine jet at Taipei Songshan Airport with a decommissioning ceremony.
The Taipei-based carrier introduced its first MD-90 as a passenger aircraft in 1996. The airline has operated a total of 14 MD-90s in the past 20 years.
With the retirement of the MD-90s, Uni Air will renew its fleet with 15 ATR 72-600s and A321s, lowering its fleet age to an average of just 2.1 years.
