China Aviation Daily | Aug. 23, 2016
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport's old control tower, an architectural landmark of the city, was demolished on Sunday morning after serving for over 20 years.
The 51.5-meter-tall old control tower was made of reinforced concrete. The explosion began at 6:00 a.m. and completed in just 6 seconds.
A 114.95-meter-tall new control tower has been put into operation in Wuhan Airport since Aug.8, 2016. It is the tallest of its kind in China and the second only to the 132-meter control tower in Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The new control tower is 22 floors above the ground, resembling a phoenix coronet in shape. Controller on the tower could have a 360-degree panorama of Wuhan Airport.

Meanwhile, Wuhan Airport opened a second runway last Thursday, which will greatly ease its congestion during peak hours, and lift its comprehensive support capacity and core competence in China.
All first-tier cities and some of the major second-tier cities in China have airports with double runways, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou and Tianjin.
