A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration 9V-SKL performing flight SQ26 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to New York JFK, NY (U.S.), landed on JFK's runway 31L, rolled out and vacated the runway, tower instructed the crew to contact ground, when another crew reported there was a big flock of birds on the runway, SQ26 had landed through that flock and it appeared birds had been ingested by two (of four) engines (Trent 970), the birds entered the engines and came out of the engines in pieces.
The SQ crew was informed about the observation on ground frequency and reported they had normal engine indications, they did actually see the flock of birds but the birds avoided them.
A first runway inspection reported 20 or more dead birds at the intersection of runways 31L and 22R, the inspection subsequently reported it will take a while to return both runways to service, they needed to collect around about 100 birds.
The occurrence aircraft was able to depart for the return flight SQ25 on schedule about 11 hours after landing.
