Cathay Pacific Airways bid farewell to its iconic Boeing 747 passenger aircraft with a flyover the city on the morning of Saturday, October 8.
The 60-minute charity flight CX8747, departed at 10:30 a.m. and flew over Victoria Harbour, passing the former Kai Tak Airport and over the Lei Yue Mun Gap.
The first double-decker jumbo entered Cathay's passenger fleet in 1979 and helped the airline expand its network. Its final passenger flight last Saturday from Tokyo's Haneda Airport attracted a large number of aviation enthusiasts who wanted to bid farewell to the "Queen of the Skies."
Cathay has been phasing out its old, less fuel efficient aircraft in recent years, and replacing them with newer Boeing 777s and Airbus 350s.
