Sichuan Airlines has submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), seeking traffic rights for two long-haul services to Los Angeles and New York, the United States.
Pending government approval, the Chengdu-based carrier plans to operate a Chengdu-Los Angeles service in August 2017, using Airbus A330 aircraft, according to an announcement released Tuesday on the CAAC's official website. It also intends to launch a Chengdu-New York service next August, using A330s.
Both services will be operated on a thrice-weekly basis, the CAAC said.
Besides, Hainan Airlines plans to launch nonstop flights linking Chengdu with Los Angeles and New York in December 2016 and March 2017, using Boeing 787 Drealiner.
Sichuan Airlines will compete with China Eastern Airlines and Hainan Airlines on the Chengdu-Los Angeles route, while it will share markets with Hainan Airlines between Chengdu and New York.
The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2016.
