A China Southern Airlines Airbus A380 Superjumbo collided with a tow truck at Los Angeles Airport before taking off for Guangzhou on Friday, sources familiar with the matter disclosed via Sina Weibo.
The collision happened just before midnight Thursday on a taxiing lane on the tarmac between Terminal 4 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal, LAX officials said. China Southern Flight 328 was scheduled to fly to Guangzhou but after the collision, the Airbus 380 aircraft, Registration B-6139, was towed to another part of the airport for inspection and repairs. The nose gear door was damaged.
China Southern issued a statement shortly after the incident, saying the A380's nose gear collided with a tow truck during pushback before takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport.
The Guangzhou-based carrier confirmed there were 447 passengers and 28 crew on board and they all deplaned safely.
LAX officials said the tow bar broke, which caused the collision.
No injuries were reported among the 447 passengers and flight crew aboard the aircraft; however, the truck driver had minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The airline said it arranged hotel accommodation for the passengers and will help them book alternative flights.
