China Aviation Daily | Nov. 22, 2016

Thai AirAsia took delivery of its first Airbus A320neo on November 19, which also marks the 50th aircraft in its fleet.

Thai Airasia's A320neo is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and features 186 seats (current 180). This has been achieved with a reconfiguration of the cabin, allowing an extra row of seats to be added without reducing legroom.

The A320neo incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020.

On November 19, Thai AirAsia held a religious ceremony to anoint its new A320neo airplane, the first of its type in Thailand. The new arrival also marks a significant milestone in Thai AirAsia's history, becoming the low-cost carrier's 50th aircraft.

On the same day, the A320neo is put into charter service as part of the special activity titled "Taking to the Sky in the Footsteps of the Father: With Alternative Energy", flying a total of 75 children from Rajprachanukroh Schools in the provinces of Sakon Nakhon, Phitsanulok and Nan to visit Royally Initiated Alternative Energy projects at the Specialized R&D Center for Alternative Energy from Palm Oil and Oil Crops at the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University.

In total, the AirAsia group has ordered 300 A320neos and 100 larger A321neos.
