Video: Airbus History Made - A350-1000 Performs Its Successful Maiden Flight
Nov. 28, 2016
On its maiden flight performed November 24, 2016, the A350-1000 demonstrated its efficiency and capabilities for the global customer base of this longest-fuselage member in Airbus' A350 XWB jetliner family.
The first of three A350-1000 development aircraft to fly -- MSN059 -- has landed at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport France at 3:00 p.m. local time after successfully completing its first flight which lasted four hours and 18 minutes.
Measuring nearly 74 metres from nose to tail, the A350-1000 offers a maximum range of 7,950 nautical miles and is designed for high efficiency, maximum reliability and optimised performance, while offering passengers best-in-class comfort with its "Airspace by Airbus" cabin.
As with many of the Airbus jetliners that proceeded it, the no. 1 A350-1000 performed its maiden flight from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in southwestern France
The no. 1 A350-1000's first flight included verification of the aircraft's basic handling qualities with its landing gear extended and retracted.
The no. 1 A350-1000's maiden takeoff -- performed in France from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport's Runway 32L on 24 November -- initiated a fast-paced certification campaign leading to the first airline deliveries of Airbus' longest-fuselage A350 XWB version in the second half of 2017.
As with the shorter-fuselage A350-900 version, Airbus' A350-1000 jetliner's fuselage is built with carbon-fibre reinforce plastic (CFRP) and is sized at a 221-inch cross-section.
The Airbus flight test crew acknowledges the crowd of employees, managers, airline representatives, suppliers, news media personnel and others who gathered at France's Toulouse-Blagnac Airport for the A350-1000's first flight
During more than 4 hours aloft, this longest-fuselage version of the A350 XWB demonstrated the performance and efficiency that will be appreciated by airline and aircraft leasing customers worldwide - 11 of which already have ordered 195 A350-1000s from the Middle East, North America, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
