China Southern Plans 7,300 Extra Flights for Spring Festival Travel Rush

To meet increasing passenger travel demands during this year's annual Spring Festival travel rush, China Southern Airlines plans to add 7,300 flights (a round-trip flight equals two flights).
Spring migration or "Chunyun" lasts for 40 days -- from January 13 to February 21, 2017 -- when millions of people travel home for the Spring Festival falls on January 28, 2017.
As the world's largest annual human migration, some 2.98 billion trips are expected to be made during the 40-day period, including 58.3 million by aviation.
China Southern is expected to serve as many as 11 million passengers during the travel rush, increasing 15% year on year.
In accordance with passengers' needs for reunions, as many as 6,000 flights will be added to domestic routes, including flights between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, to Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Changsha, Haikou, etc. The airline will deploy wide-body aircraft on 1,250 flights to Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, adding 90,000 seats.
Meanwhile, the Guangzhou-based carrier is scheduled to operate more than 700 extra flights on international and regional routes, covering Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Singapore, including round-trip flights linking Guangzhou and Ho Chi Minh City, Chiang Mai in Thailand and Tokyo in Japan.
