Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways has been listed the top spot in the World's Safest Airlines in 2017 by Germany-based airline industry magazine Aero International.
Aero International Tuesday published their safest airlines list based on full-year statistics provided by JACDEC (Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre), which calculates its annual rankings based on aircraft loss accidents and serious incidents where an accident nearly occurred over the past 30 years.
JACDEC has so far released its top 12 rankings for 2017, which is based on data and results from 2016.
The world's safest airline was Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways, followed by Air New Zealand, China's Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways, and KLM at the fifth place among Top 10 list.
Taiwan's EVA Air, the United Arab Emirates' Emirates and Etihad Airways, as well as the Australian Qantas and Japan Airlines filled out the rest of the top ten.
Another Taiwan-based airline on the list was China Airlines, ranked 60th.
The full ranking of the top 60 safest airlines together with a summarized safety review of 2016 will be published on January 18, 2017, the JACDEC said on its official website.
