Macau Releases 2007 Air Traffic Statistics

According to information released by the Statistics and Census Service of Macau SAR Government, commercial flights at Macau International Airport went up by 4 percent year-on-year to 49,441 last year, Taiwan and the Mainland were the major routes accounting for 44 percent and 33 percent, respectively, of the total commercial flights to and from Macau.
At the Outer Harbour, helicopter flights between Macau and Hong Kong also grew by 5 percent over 2006 to 17,660. Meanwhile, 3,041 helicopter flights were recorded between Macau and the Mainland.
In terms of air cargo traffic, outward cargo handled at Macau International Airport fell by 22 percent year-on-year to 69,625 tonnes last year while Taiwan, the Mainland and Luxembourg were the major destinations that accounted for 63 percent, 12 percent and 8 percent of the total, respectively. Inward air cargo decreased by 6 percent to 22,758 tonnes, of which cargo goods from Taiwan took a predominant share of 85 percent. Transit air cargo handled dropped by 18 percent over 2006 to 88,553 tonnes.
