Man Detained for Flying Drone Close to Passenger Plane Near Hangzhou Airport

A man in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, has been under police investigation for allegedly endanger public safety by using a drone to film a passenger plane in the air from only hundreds of meters away.
An 8-second video clip went viral online showing a passenger plane approaching an airport in Hangzhou, with subtitles saying the footage was filmed on Sunday with a drone only a few hundred meters away from the airliner.
The video caused a public outcry, with complaints that it was shot too close to the plane and calls for the police to investigate.
The Zhejiang public security department issued a statement on Monday afternoon saying the video was real and the man, an amateur aviation enthusiast surnamed Yuan, had been arrested on charges of endangering public safety.
He had meant to shoot the sunset about 8.5km away from Hangzhou Airport and flew the drone at an altitude of 450 meters. During his 10 minutes' shooting, he captured footage of passenger planes passing by.
And further investigation is ongoing, it added.
Capital Airlines confirmed the A320 aircraft in the video belonged to the company, which was en route from Hangzhou to Hangzhou as performing flight JD5687. The Beijing-based carrier also strongly condemned this dangerous behavior.
