VariFlight: Chinese Airports Development Report for March 2017

VariFlight-China Aviation Big Data Research Center has released the Chinese Airports Development Report for March 2017:
- total actual outbound flights in March recorded a month-on-month(MOM) increase of 5.7%;
- international flights' MOM increase is smaller than domestic flights' in March;
- international routes has a decrease of 48 in March, where most of the closed routes are from/to Thailand and South Korea.
1. Actual outbound flights
In March 2017, domestic airports' actual outbound flights amounted to 0.345 million, representing a MOM increase of 5.7% and a year-on-year(YOY) increase of 10.3%.
The actual outbound flights from 10-million-passenger airports amounted to 0.257 million, and that for 2-million-passenger airports amounted to 48 thousand.

Beijing Capital(PEK)(25052 flights) and Taiyuan Wu Su(TYN)(3617 flights) have the largest number of actual outbound flights among 10-million-passenger airports and 2-million-passenger airports, respectively.
Shanghai Hongqiao(SHA)(10.7%) and Wuxi Shuofang (WUX)(13.4%) has the biggest MOM increase on actual outbound flights among 10-million-passenger airports and 2-million-passenger airports, respectively.
2. International flights & proportion
In March 2017, international flights and domestic flights amounted to 34 thousand and 311 thousand, representing a MOM increase of 5.2% and 5.7%, respectively. International flights' MOM increase is smaller than domestic flights'.
International flights account for 9.8% of actual outbound flights, representing a MOM decrease of 0.1 percent and a YOY decrease of 0.6%.

Shanghai Pudong(PVG)(42.5%) and Quanzhou Jinjiang(JJN)(13.1%) have the largest international flights' proportion among 10-million-passenger airports and 2-million-passenger airports, respectively.
Kunming Changshui(KMG)(0.4%) and Quanzhou Jinjiang(JJN)(2.0%) have the biggest MOM increase on international flights' proportion among 10-million-passenger airports and 2-million-passenger airports, respectively.
3. Outbound nonstop routes
In March 2017, domestic airports have 5022 outbound nonstop routes, of which 4122 routes are domestic routes and 900 routes are international routes.

10-million-passenger airports
Beijing Capital has the largest number of domestic(126) and international(108) routes.
Compared with February 2017, Nanjing Lukou(NKG) is the 10-million-passenger airport with the largest number of new routes(7) in March 2017.
2-million-passenger airports
Hunhot Baita(HET) and Ningbo Lishe(NGB) has the largest number of domestic routes and international routes, respectively, which are 51 and 15.
Compared with February 2017, Guilin Liangjiang(KWL) is the 2-million-passenger airport with the largest number of new routes(6) in March 2017.
4. Connectedness index
Beijing Capital(PEK) ranks the first place in the overall connectedness index and domestic - domestic connectedness index, which are 685 and 668, respectively. Shanghai Hongqiao and Shanghai Pudong has the best domestic - international and international - domestic connectedness index, which are 253 and 221, respectively.

Actual outbound flights: the outbound flights with actual departure and arrival time that could be monitored by VariFlight; cancelled flights are not included.
International flights: the international flights depart from domestic airports, including flights from domestic areas to international areas/Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
Proportion of international flights: International flights / actual outbound flights
New routes: domestic airlines' outbound nonstop routes which appeared in the current month but didn't appear in last month.
