Lufthansa Group Opens New Representative Office in Beijing to Further Strengthen the Group Presence in China Market

Due to the pivotal importance of Greater China for Lufthansa Group, the Group Executive Board decided to establish a Representative Office for the entire Group (including the airlines - Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Swiss International Air Lines - as well as Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, LSG Sky Chefs etc.). It will be located in Beijing in order to facilitate communication flows and to increase presence and availability of Lufthansa Group toward its Chinese partners mainly in the political and governmental environment. Dr Matthias Goebel, a graduate of Beijing University Law School, was appointed head of this Office. He reports to Thomas Kropp, Head of Group International Relations and Government Affairs and Senior Vice President Lufthansa Group.
Lufthansa Group is the leading European Airline Group in China and partner of the national carrier Air China. It has a long standing tradition in this market with 91 years of presence and is active in all major business segments of the industry in China. Together with Chinese partners, Lufthansa Group is engaged in various successful joint-ventures, such as Ameco Beijing, Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen Co. Ltd in the MRO sector, Lufthansa Sky Chefs branches in many Chinese cities and PACTL in cargo sector.
Dr Goebel has a long-time business track record in China and Germany and is fluent in Chinese, German and English. Furthermore, he is a graduate of Beijing University Law School. Going forward, he will represent the interests of the Lufthansa Group towards the political and governmental authorities and partners in China. He will also be responsible for the coordination of all Group companies in this region.
