A 25-year-old security officer at Narita airport in Chiba Prefecture apparently shot himself in the head at a staff office inside the airport on April 25, police said. According to investigations so far, Nobuyuki Matsui, an officer of the Narita International Airport Security Force of the Chiba prefectural police, was found dead inside a toilet at around 1 p.m., bleeding from the head. A handgun was on the floor.

The officer's boss, a 33-year-old assistant police inspector, went to check if Matsui was all right as he had not returned for a long time and found his body inside a toilet with the door locked, police said. "It is extremely regrettable and disappointing that a duty officer killed himself using a handgun," said Hideo Okada, head of the security force. "We will make utmost efforts to prevent a similar incident from happening again."
