Indonesia's Aceh Province has asked Malaysian budget airline AirAsia to provide daily flights between the provincial capital Banda Aceh and Kuala Lumpur, an official said on May 23.
Provincial officials and the airlines management were slated to meet to discuss the flight increase, up from three times a week.
"An increase is natural. The demand is quite high as there are many Acehnese who travel to Malaysia," provincial air transportation division head Bustaman was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying.
"The average load factor is about 75 percent per flight. We also expect more Malaysians to visit Aceh."
AirAsia started to serve the Banda Aceh-Kuala Lumpur route early this year on three flights a week using 180-seat Airbus A320.
Previously, passengers from Aceh had to travel to North Sumatra provincial capital of Medal before continuing their journey to Kuala Lumpur.
