Tiger Airways Australia Looking to Launch International Services
Jun. 12, 2008
Tiger Airways is currently exploring all opportunities to commence international routes using its Australia-based crew and aircraft.
Tiger Airways Australia, a unit of Tiger Airways, is meeting the Australian government to discuss its plan to assist the Australian international tourism industry and seek permission to launch international services.
Tiger Airways' Chief Executive Tony Davis said the Australian tourism industry is too important to the nation's economy to be subjected to the vested interest of a single listed company, Qantas.
Since the announcement last week that Qantas and Jetstar will be slashing their international routes, Tiger Airways has been asked by Australia's State and Territory governments and tourism groups across Australia for the low-cost carrier to fill the gap.
Tiger Airways Australia is 49 percent owned by Singapore Airlines.
