On June 10, a Sudanese airliner burst into flames after landing in Khartoum at night. Officials say at least 28 people were killed in the accident, while most on board have been rescued.
This plane belonging to Sudan Airways veered off a runway on June 10 after landing amid thunderstorms at Khartoum's airport.
Over two hundred passengers and 14 crew members were aboard the plane, which took off from Damascus with a stopover in Amman.
Authorities say the response to the situation was quick, and those injured are receiving treatment in hospital.
Sarrah Faisal, flight attendant, said, "I am a flight attendant. Thank God, we are all fine. With God's will, we managed to get the passengers out. Thankfully there weren't many injuries."
An airport director has said the plane landed safely and the pilot talked to the control tower and got directions for his landing on the runway. He insists a technical reason was to blame.
But Sudan Airways Executive Manager, Jamal Othman, doesn't agree.
Jamal Othman said, "We attribute this accident to bad weather conditions, which caused the plane to skid off the runway."
Currently, Sudan's police and aviation authorities are working together to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
