Japan Airlines Domestic Pilots Begin Strike
Japan Today | Jun. 19, 2008
On June 18, a Japan Airlines pilot union commenced a strike, a move expected to cause the cancellation of 34 domestic flights and affect around 5,000 passengers on June 19.
"At a time when the company is logging record profits, the management cuts wages and our labor conditions remain terrible," a member of the Japan Airlines Domestic Pilot Union said at a press conference in Tokyo on June 18.
The union is planning to reopen negotiations with the management side seeking a review in the conditions, according to the member.
Pilots of Japan Air Commuter, a JAL unit, went on strike in the morning on June 18 but ended it on June 19. The strike led to the cancellation of 86 flights, more than half of the flights scheduled for the day.
