American Airlines Will Add 250 Technicians to Its Workforce
Feb. 02, 2019
American Airlines is hiring more than 250 aviation maintenance technicians during the first six months of this year, the airline announced Thursday.
The hiring will take place in 30 cities across the country where American Airlines, Inc. has operations.
The Fort Worth-based airline did not say how many aviation maintenance technicians, or AMTs, will be hired in North Texas. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is the airline's largest hub where it eventually plans to fly 900 daily flights after an expansion.
"This big hiring push is all about providing additional support for our daily mainline departures and reinforcing the operational reliability of our airline as we prepare for our peak travel period and beyond," said Paul Wroble, vice president of Line Maintenance, in a prepared statement.
Wroble added American currently has 9,000 licensed AMTs, and this addition to its workforce will improve the travel experience for customers.
American previously said it in-sources more maintenance work than any other airline. The carrier announced in December it inducted the first CFM56-5B engine from its maintenance hub in Tulsa, Okla., about a year after it announced it was bringing that maintenance work in-house.
The CFM56-5B engine is made by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric Co. and French aerospace company Safran. The engine model powers 151 of American's aircraft.
The airline made history recently by appointing the first woman, Evita "Evie" Garces, to the role of director of Maintenance for the airline, a key position every airline needs to fill to comply with the Federal Aviation Administration.
