An Alaska Airlines flight returned to its origin city and three crew members were sent to the hospital after an odor was detected in the plane's cabin.

"Alaska Airlines Flight 1506, an Airbus aircraft, departed (Seattle-Tacoma International Airport) for Orange County/Santa Ana at 9:06 a.m. During the flight, the crew reported a cabin odor. As a precaution, the aircraft returned to Sea-Tac at 9:40 a.m.," the airline said in a statement to USA TODAY.

Passengers were not affected, nor did any report symptoms.

"The pilots and flight attendants received a medical evaluation at the airport, and were then transported to the hospital for further evaluation," the airline added. "The cause of the odor is being investigated. The flight was canceled, and those passengers booked on other flights."

Port of Seattle Fire Department responders didn't detect an odor once they boarded the aircraft, according to a statement from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Three crew members went to Highline Medical Center in Burien, Washington, "for precautionary evaluation."
