Sheremetyevo Processed 170 Thousand Tons of Cargo and Mail in 6 Months

Sheremetyevo International Airport recently published its cargo performance results for the first 6 months of 2019. In total, the airport processed 148 thousand tons of cargo, 22 thousand tons of mail. The volume of cargo traffic in Sheremetyevo in January-June 2019 has increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2018. Sheremetyevo Airport is the top airport in the entire Moscow Air Cluster in terms of cargo traffic: the airport's share of the total volume has increased from 61% to 67%, compared to the first 6 months of 2018.
The increase is attributed to the growth of cargo traffic of international airlines up to 111 thousand tons -- by 2.6% compared to 2018. The volume of cargo traffic of domestic airlines remained the same as in 2018 -- 37 thousand tons.
The structure of cargo traffic in Sheremetyevo demonstrates a consistent growth trend in export traffic: in the first six months of 2019, the export of international airlines has grown by more than 45% compared to the same period last year. Compared to the same period in 2018, domestic lines have shown around a 10% increase in export cargo and around a 20% increase in transfer cargo.
The principal international destinations that contributed to more than 50% of total cargo traffic are China, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US. The largest increase of cargo traffic in export and transit in January-June 2019 was recorded for the following destinations: Linge (LGG), Milan (MXP), Hong Kong (HKG), and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKS). In import and transit in January-June 2019, the biggest boost was recorded for these destinations: Chongqing (CKG), Beijing (PRK), Seoul (ICN), and Paris (CDG).
