A man who fell unconscious in a crash of a small airplane last week in waters off Nagasaki airport died on July 28, police said.
Kensuke Haraguchi, a 54-year-old self-employed worker, was rescued along with the two other crew members aboard the plane after the crash in waters some 300 meters off Nagasaki airport in Omura, Nagasaki Prefecture, on July 26, but remained unconscious, according to rescue authorities.
The other two are the plane's owner Etsuo Koga, a 59-year-old dentist, and Tsutomu Morokuma, a 65-year-old dental mechanic, who both sustained slight injuries.
Koga was in the backseat, the police said, adding they believe that either Haraguchi or Morokuma took the pilot's seat.
According to the authorities, the plane took off from the airport around 5:20 p.m. on July 26 and hit the water two minutes later.
Shortly after the take-off, the pilot sought permission to land at the airport again, and a flight controller saw smoke and flames on the underside of the plane.
