Miyazaki Airport Temporarily Closed After Lightning Strikes Runway

On Aug. 8, Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan was temporarily closed in the afternoon after lightning hit its runway and created two holes close to each other, causing a total of 18 cancellations and delays in flights to and from the airport, the airport office said.
The 2,500-meter runway was shut for about an hour and a half for repair work. No one was injured due to the lightning, the office said.
