Nashville International Airport Reopens Revamped Runway
Nov. 13, 2008
The eastern-most runway at Nashville International Airport has been re-opened for operations on Nov. 13.
Earlier this year, the airport closed two runways - the eastern-most runway, Runway 2R-20L, and the crosswind and longest runway, Runway 13-31 - for construction.
The longest runway closed in March and is expected to open again in December.
Both projects are aimed at enhancing runway and taxiway safety.
"Safety and security are our top priorities. These runway projects underscore the airport authority's commitment to providing premier facilities and services to the traveling public and supporting economic development efforts in our region," says Raul Regalado, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.
While both runways were closed, the airport's two other parallel runways handled all traffic, which caused increased aircraft overflights. The opening of the third runway, and the upcoming opening of the fourth, should help air traffic return to normal patterns experienced before the closures.
