Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) announced during ABACE 2013 the election of new members to its Board of Directors and Executive Committee: the re-election of Chairman: Mr. Kevin Wu (Cessna Aircraft), the election of two new Vice Chairmen: Mr. David Best (BBA Aviation) and Mr. Charlie Mularski (Universal Weather & Aviation). The election of Ms. Saira Kanchwala (Arinc) and Mr. Sacha DUNAS (World Events Agency) as Executive Committee members. Besides, Mr. Zhang Qiang (Deer Jet) is appointed to be the Chairman of China Mainland Business Aviation Operator Committee.

Last week, as China dealt with the disappointment of seeing its economic growth rate dip to 7.7 percent (still more than twice the combined annual GDP growth rate of the U.S. and Europe), 180 companies from around the globe gathered in Shanghai to convince Chinese business community that private aviation can take them to the next level. The occasion was the now-annual Asian Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (ABACE) and the main takeaway was that this still largely Western-led industry is having to accept that expansion will only happen on Chinese terms and with Chinese companies having a direct stake in just about every development.
- Gulfstream Aerospace Still Soaring at General Dynamics[Apr. 25, 2013]
Revenues at General Dynamics' aerospace division, which includes Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation, soared to nearly US$1.78 billion in the first quarter, a US$155 million increase from a year ago, according to financial results the company released yesterday. Segment profit in the quarter also climbed by US$39 million, or 14.4 percent, to US$310 million, thanks in large part to Gulfstream, though General Dynamics chairman and CEO Phebe Novakovic said Jet Aviation "made a contribution in the quarter."
- Nextant Aerospace Announces China Great Wall Industry Corporation As Exclusive Sales Agent in China[Apr. 15, 2013]
Nextant Aerospace ("Nextant"), maker of the Nextant 400XT, has today announced the appointment of China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) as exclusive sales agent for the Greater China Region (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). The initial order of 18 Nextant aircraft (three firm with 15 options) worth US$89 million is to be delivered over the next 24 months, starting later this year. The aircraft will be a mix of business and special mission configurations. The Chinese aerospace leader will also play an instrumental role in establishing the Nextant service, support and parts distribution in China.

Nextant Aerospace ("Nextant"), maker of the Nextant 400XT, the world's only remanufactured business jet, has today launched its new air ambulance conversion module for its 400XT model.

At last year's ABACE show, potential helicopter exhibitors were told that they had to truck their aircraft into the static display because of a ban on helicopters at Hongqiao Airport. That policy changed this year.
- China Sets Sights on Its Own Business Aircraft Family[Apr. 16, 2013]
Though business aviation is still young in China, the country has been quick to make clear its intention not just to be a consumer of imported business aircraft, but to be active as a manufacturer of them too. So far, partnerships with foreign airframers have been the main path to this goal, but now China's AVIC group has started work on its own design for what it calls the China New Generation Business Jet. And other new domestically developed general aviation aircraft are starting to take shape as well.
