Aug. 12, 2015

China Eastern Airlines (MU) took delivery of a brand-new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in Shanghai Wednesday afternoon, which is the eighth of 20 777-300ERs the airline has on order.

The 777-300ER, Registration B-2023, officially joined the fleet of China Eastern following a delivery flight from Everett to Shanghai. Flight MU9001 took off from Everett Paine Field Airport (PAE) at 10:55 a.m., Tuesday and landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) at 1:56 p.m., Wednesday, according to Flightradar24 (all local time). At 3:47 p.m. on Aug. 12, the 777-300ER touched down at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) and officially joined China Eastern's fleet.

The new aircraft will be deployed on Shanghai Hongqiao-Chengdu route starting Aug. 14, operating flight MU5401, MU5408, MU5409 and MU5418.

China Eastern took delivery of its first 777-300ER in September 2014, becoming the third 777-300ER operator in mainland China following Air China (CA) and China Southern Airlines (CZ).

The Shanghai-based carrier is scheduled to introduce five 777-300ERs in 2015. The new aircraft is the fourth one to be delivered this year, with another 777-300ER pending delivery in September.

China Eastern has ordered 20 777-300ERs totally, with deliveries scheduled through 2018. To date, the airline has eight aircraft of the type in its fleet, which are mostly deployed on the long-haul services to two destinations in North America.

As the introduction of more long-range wide-body aircraft, China Eastern will operate the 777-300ER aircraft to develop its North American market. In the next three years, the Shanghai-based carrier will fly the aircraft to Los Angles, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto, to further enhance its competition on transpacific routes.
