- Spirit Orders 30 A319s[Jan. 23, 2007]
Spirit Airlines has placed a firm order for 30 A319s, bringing its total Airbus order to 44 (37 A319s and seven A321s). The deal was finalized in late 2006. Each of the single-aisle aircraft will be powered by International Aero Engines' V2500s. Deliveries of the newly ordered aircraft are slated to begin in October 2009 and run through mid-2013.

UPS could cancel the remaining A380F order for 10 aircraft according to news reports. The express operator has refuted cancellation rumours however, saying that it is still in negotiations with Airbus. The decision would leave Airbus without a single order for the super jumbo, despite its own projections of a long-term market demand for 400 A380 freighters.

On January 22, Boeing and GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) announced a 39-airplane order that includes 15 Boeing 777s -- a mix of seven 777-300ER (Extended Range) passenger jetliners and eight 777 Freighters -- and 24 Next-Generation 737-800s.
